Arthur the King – Adventure race movie with Mark Wahlberg
Welcome to my behind-the-scenes account of my unforgettable experience working on the movie “Arthur the King” in the breathtaking landscapes of the Dominican Republic. This action-packed film tells the heartwarming story of Arthur, an extraordinary street dog who befriends a team of adventure racers competing in a grueling 600-kilometer race. Join me as I recount the awe-inspiring experience of working on this film, surrounded by nature, camaraderie, and the most legendary 4am workouts!
From the moment I stepped foot in the Dominican Republic, I knew this experience would be unforgettable. The lush jungles, pristine beaches, and majestic mountains set the stage for an epic adventure. The buzz amongst the cast and crew was infectious, and we all shared a passion for the great outdoors and we made sure to make the most of where we were every single moment we had off by surfing, slack lining, diving and enjoying the beautiful beach we were living on for a few months.
The movie brought together an outstanding cast, including the talented Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Ali Suliman. But the real inspiration behind the film was Michael Landes, whose genuine love and compassion for Arthur the dog formed the heart of the story. Getting to know Michael and hearing firsthand about his experiences with Arthur added a profound depth to the project.
One of the highlights of my time in the DR was the opportunity to train with the machine Mark Wahlberg. Every morning, well before the sun rose, we would gather at his villa to get after the legendary 4am workout. The beachside gym provided the perfect setting for an intense and invigorating workout. Training as a team united us even more, We often went for a sea swim after training which was epic! I can genuinely say that those workouts transformed my physical body and gave me mental strength and a new found focus and determination.
As we worked on the movie, we lived and breathed the adventure ourselves. Riding bikes through dense jungles, kayaking on winding rivers, climbing towering cliffs, and hiking to breathtaking vistas became part of our daily routine. It was as if we were becoming our characters, immersed in the adrenaline-fueled world of the adventure racers. It was one of those once in a lifetime jobs where you felt you should have been paying for the experience not the other way around.
The Dominican Republic’s natural beauty was awe-inspiring. Exploring its untamed wilderness, I felt an unbreakable connection with the environment around me. From the vibrant flora to the diverse wildlife, every moment spent in nature felt like a privilege. It was a constant reminder of the importance of preserving these treasures for future generations. I loved the moment i first tried a cacao pod and ate the fruit filled jelly centre and it blew my mind how good it was!
Working on the movie “Arthur the King” was a life-changing experience that combined my passion for adventure with my love for the film industry. Being a part of such a heartwarming and thrilling story, surrounded by nature’s splendor, was a true dream come true. The memories of training with Mark Wahlberg and bonding with the remarkable cast and crew will stay with me forever.
As we eagerly await the release of the film, I can’t help but feel grateful for the unforgettable moments, the friendships forged, and the everlasting impact it had on my life. “Arthur the King” taught me that love, determination, and compassion can triumph against all odds and that life’s greatest adventures are waiting just beyond our comfort zones.
